The darkest hour

I write this before dawn, and I know that the sun will go down again sometime in the middle of my work day. Today is the nadir. The winter solstice will occur today at 7:22 pm. Although I turned in my grades yesterday I am far from finished. The list of unfinished tasks, many urgent, many long overdue, is as long as it has ever been. I look forward to watching it grow shorter as the days grow longer. If you are someone to whom I have promised some work, I apologize. I should get to it soon. The winter solstice is upon us. There will be more light, and I will get caught up.
